On a number of occasions throughout the year, Rail Ventures is required to reposition our luxury rail cars from their permanent stabling facility to another location on the Amtrak or VIA Rail Canada routes to commence a private charter. During these repositioning movements, the rail cars normally travel without passengers onboard. These trips can provide for a one time luxury rail experience at a greatly reduced cost if your party is willing to travel on short notice to the "repositioning" destination. For example, should a client request a charter from Chicago to New Orleans and the requested rail car is stabled in Washington, DC, there would be the opportunity to enjoy a private rail car experience on the set date of repositioning travel from Washington to Chicago, an overnight rail experience highlighted with gourmet meals and fine wines, traveling through the the scenic landscapes of West Virginia. Similarly, on some occasions, the repositioning movement may be transcontinental and the costs of enjoying such a rail adventure could reflect up to a 40% discount.

These opportunities, as they occur, will be posted on this site and updated on a regular basis.

Right now there are two great opportunities opening up. The first is a beautiful day ride along the Mississippi and across Wisconsin from Minneapolis to Chicago on July 26th.

Then departing Chicago on Sunday July 27th we will travel the fabled route of the California Zephyr to Omaha, Denver, Colorado Springs, Salt Lake City, Reno, Sacramento and the San Francisco Bay Area. We will offer day rides, overnight rides and the way through rides on a first come first serve basis. See the Rockies and Sierra as well as a full day in the Colorado High Country for a memorable train trip from Minneapolis to Chicago the end of July and then after that to continue your trip on to Oakland or Chicago to Los Angeles.
